A film programme for the first edition of Night School, led by Todd Reisz at Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai. 

About Night School:
A small seminar of Dubai residents will meet to explore the ways Dubai has been shaped by design and by the people who transformed design into reality. With several guests joining us, we explore Dubai’s growth and ambitions in relation to other cities in the Gulf. The seminar will meet from January 9 until January 26, on Sunday and Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m.

January 10, 2022:
These Are the Trucial States (World Wide Pictures, 1958, Documentary, 14 min, Arabic with English subtitles) 
A short documentary about the Trucial States (now the United Arab Emirates).


ADMA For Short (BP Films, 1958, Documentary, 34 min, English)
This film describes the building of ADMA Enterprise (Abu Dhabi Marine Areas), the drilling platform, in a shipyard on the Kiel Canal, from where it was rowed to the Arabian Gulf, and how Das Island (Abu Dhabi), an uninhabited outcrop of rock in the Arabian Gulf, became a base complete with harbour, airstrip, living quarters and workshops.



January 28, 2022:
A Fallible Girl (Conrad Clark, 2013, 104 min) 
Lifei, decides to set up a mushroom farm in the desert between Dubai and Abu Dhabi with her best friend. It's been hard earned cash for these 2 Chinese girls in working in Dubai, now they are ready to go clean, become business women. Life quickly gets tough for the girls, and whereas her best friend is quick to return to her former life, Lifei is resolute. She has to manage a team of workers from Bangladesh, find investors and keep growing and delivering mushrooms throughout Dubai. Just as she gets a grip on the matter, and gains some control over her life, personal tragedy pushes her to return to China. The only problem is she is unable to leave until she pays back the mounting debt she has got herself into.
