Phantom Memories, 2010
35mm Photography

Sponsored by Moorfields Hospital, Sense of Sight is a photography exhibition that aims to highlight the importance of eyesight and vision and the need for regular eye screening through the portrayal of visual disturbance either psychological or in the form of visual impairment. This exhibition is running from 3rd-24th Feb at DUCTAC in Dubai. Event Details

My participation in this group exhibition included this selection of photos. Learning about the different eye ailments and their effects, I was fascinated by Charles Bonnet Syndrome (CBS), when people with sight problems start to see things which they know aren't real. Sometimes called visual hallucinations or phantom memories, the things people see can vary from simple patterns to detailed pictures of people or places.

We take so much for granted, so for this project, I wondered what would I miss the most if I lost my eyesight. What memories would haunt me, what images would be trapped in my mind and re-appear unexpectedly?
