Dancing Girls (2016)
This video is a collage of found music clips from the Gulf region (late1970s-early 2000s), layered with a contemporary English pop song (Kylie Minogue's Come Into My World - Fischerspooner remix).
This piece addresses the representation of the Gulf woman in pop culture - past and present. The traditional hair dance which used to be performed by young women in the past is now mostly performed by young girls at heritage themed events and festivals.
By extracting these clips and presenting them in a new context, I want to create new meanings and pose questions about the representation of women from the Gulf region in pop culture.
